  25.             NICOLAS (Network Information Center On Line Aid System) is a
  26.             menu-driven network user help system  that functions both as
  27.             an information server  and an inter-network gateway.   As an
  28.             information  server,  NICOLAS provides  syntaxes for  inter-
  29.             network mail addressing, general information about wide-area
  30.             networks, networking-related  "how to" files, information on
  31.             current NASA missions & projects,  and a variety of network-
  32.             and computer-related information of specific interest to the
  33.             NASA-Goddard community.  As an automated inter-network gate-
  34.             way, NICOLAS  enables users  to log into  their NASAMail and
  35.             GSFCMail accounts, connect directly to a number of other on-
  36.             line  resources,  and  perform  a variety  of "yellow pages"
  37.             functions.

  39.             _N_e_t_w_o_r_k _A_c_c_e_s_s

  41.             Access is made via TELNET to dftnic.gsfc.nasa.gov  with  the
  42.             username "dftnic"; no password is required.  Access can also
  43.             be made in DECnet via SET HOST to DFTNIC.

  45.             _W_h_o _C_a_n _U_s_e _N_I_C_O_L_A_S:

  47.             Although NICOLAS is  intended  primarily  for  use  by  NASA
  48.             employees,  researchers,  and  contractors, all services are
  49.             available to users of the Internet.

  69.             NICOLAS is hosted on a VAX  8250  which  is  accessible  for
  70.             remote  logins via both TCP/IP and DECnet, and which is also
  71.             a node on BITNET.   Dial-up and X.25 access  are also avail-
